ACTION ALERT
You have most likely read and heard about the foreboding forecast regarding sea level rise and climate change. While it may seem like our planet is doomed, Emerald Keepers is filled with hope because of people like you.
Hope + Action = Positive Results and Solutions
We need your help in advocating for a strong Climate Action Plan for Coronado. One of the easiest ways for Coronado to cut its greenhouse gas emissions it to join a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) for clean energy. There are two CCAs in San Diego County: San Diego Community Power (SDCP) and Clean Energy Alliance (CEA).
Here are some facts about CCAs:
- San Diego CCAs are contractually committed to deliver a minimum of 50% renewable energy vs SDG&E’s 31% renewable energy.
- SDCP committed to 100% clean energy by 2035 whereas SDG&E follows the SB-100 mandate of 60% renewable energy by 2030.
- SDCP has already signed 4 contracts to build over 390 MW of new clean energy and 220 MW of battery storage. Construction is scheduled for Fall 2022 with new clean energy delivered by Summer 2023.
- The new energy sources contracted by SDCP are located in San Diego, Imperial and Riverside Counties along with a wind project in New Mexico. More local power projects are in the works.
Given that CCAs are price competitive with SDG&E, offer residents a choice in their energy provider, deliver cleaner energy that reduces emissions, and provide local decision making control, Coronado City Council should vote to join a CCA. Please add your voice in support!
