Days after the San Diego City Council overrode a mayoral veto to pass the city’s new earned sick leave and minimum wage law, paid signature-gatherers are being deployed to repeal it.
You’ll probably see them outside grocery stores and other businesses in the coming weeks. They are using deceptive information in their attempt to gather signatures.
Please do not sign — and then please help us spread the word!
Supported by the Democratic Party and a majority of the public, the new law makes San Diego the largest city in the country to raise the minimum wage and allow workers to earn up to five sick days a year. Now some out-of-town and local business interests are trying to overturn it. As is often the case, the paid signature-gatherers will outright lie to get people to sign.
The minimum wage increase is already law. Don’t let special interests get away with compromising that. More than 200,000 hard-working San Diegans are counting on us.
Our partners at Raise Up San Diego urgently need volunteers through September 17. We will be phonebanking to educate voters every Thursday night at 5:00 p.m. We also need help walking precincts every weekend day from now until Sept. 17, starting at 10 a.m. Just email Norma Rodriguez at nrodriguez@onlinecpi.org to volunteer.
Please spread the word: When you see the paid-signature gatherers and their misleading petition, don’t sign it! Instead, call the hotline at 619-930-3300 and report the time and location. Together we can improve our community and the lives of our fellow San Diegans!
