As a protest to the election of Donald Trump, many have suggested we launch a general strike and boycott – a commitment not to go to work or buy anything on January 20 – as a show of our collective power in opposition to Trump’s extremism. But what if, instead of protesting in this manner, we did something positive and concrete (in addition to turning off our TVs)? Here is an idea about how to channel your post-election anger, sadness and fear into action that day: volunteer at one of these local organizations.
- Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest (www.planned.org/volunteer)
- Anti-Defamation League (sandiego.adl.org)
- International Rescue Committee (firstname.lastname@example.org)
- Border Angels (www.borderangels.org)
Check out these and other amazing organizations, and call or e-mail them for an opportunity to truly make a difference on Inauguration Day and beyond. As President Obama recently said, “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something.”
