We Have a Plan and the Future is Bright

Newsletter Article by Strategic Planning Committee

You spoke and we listened!  Based on the responses in the survey many of you completed last Spring, the Strategic Planning Committee identified several major issues of importance to our members: voting rights, the environment, diversity and inclusion, criminal justice reform, and building community and club connections.  At the Strategic Planning Workshop held in September, participants further refined these issues in an effort to create an action plan consistent with our club’s goal: to grow and engage our membership, especially younger and more diverse members.

The Committee drafted its Strategic Plan recommendations based on this input, and at the December 9, 2021 Board meeting, the Board voted unanimously to approve them.  Here are just a few of the highlights of how that plan will be implemented:

  • Community-building social events throughout the year, including Coffee in the Cays, Holiday Happy Hour, 4th of July parade, Blue Wave Brunch, South Bay softball game challenge, and the addition of events that will include members’ children.
  • Engagement with issues important to our members such as (1) working with CHS Young Democrats to register/pre-register students 16 to 18 years old; (2) providing input to Coronado City Council on City’s Climate Action Plan; (3) participating in cultural and political events across the bridge and engaging with InclusioNado on CUSD School Board concerns; and (4) getting to know our Coronado Police Department through a presentation, tour of its facility, Ride-Along, etc.; having programs, discussions, movie night, and field trips involving equal justice  and restorative justice issues.
  • Raising our club’s visibility and enhancing our image as a contributor to the community through our many events and activities, including volunteering with Emerald Keepers and Safe Harbor.

The Board approved the Club Strategic Plan on December 13, 2021. If you would like to be involved, we need volunteers. If any of the issues or actions resonate with you, please volunteer — we could really use your help. Much gratitude is owed to the fabulous Strategic Planning Committee members for their hard work and dedication to this nearly year-long project:
