Did you know that as a registered Democrat, you can run to represent your community as a delegate to the California Democratic Party Convention in 2015 and 2016?
Also known as members of the Democratic State Central Committee (DSCC), delegates attend annual conventions representing their area; elect State Party officers; endorse candidates for statewide, legislative, and congressional office; and vote to endorse statewide resolutions and ballot measures. And, of course, they see and hear state and national Democratic leaders and meet Democrats from all around California.
On the second weekend of January, the State Party will hold delegate elections in each Assembly District (or “AD”; you can look up yours here). Seven men and seven women will be elected in each district.
To qualify as a candidate, you must fill out the online application at www.cadem.org/adem by Thursday, December 11, at 5:00 p.m. Note that there is a $20 application fee. Being a delegate incurs personal costs, so click here to see some potential out-of-pocket expenses.
The candidates with the most votes in the election meeting win and become delegates. Any Democrat in your Assembly District can vote in person during the two-hour registration period or during the election meeting. Please refer to the list below for the time and location for your AD election meeting. The meeting will begin two hours after the start of registration time, and voters must be registered or in line to register at the start of the meeting in order to be eligible. Voters may vote during the registration period and are not required to stay for the actual meeting.
Serving as a delegate is one of the best forms of grassroots representation and leadership within the Democratic Party. All interested Democrats are encouraged to apply, run, and vote!
